We have seen many results of vpi tank owners procrastinating over cleaning them.  This is quite understandable. Production has to stop for the duration of the cleaning project.  Scheduling the time is often a real challenge.

VPI tank owners do not have an established method of determining what is the best time for this cleaning project.  It seems that usually the patience of the people who use the tank wears thin, someone runs into the supervisors office, screaming at the top his lungs, "the lid on the VPI tank won't open, thought the cleaning was to be done during the last shutdown"!

Then you remember, that's right, at the meeting before the shutdown the promise was made to schedule the tank cleaning during the shut down.  The CFO had called the night after the meeting and told me to tighten up, no more overtime and no additional spending.  After pleading with him, "I have scheduled our VPI tank cleaning during our shutdown.  "Cancel it," he says.  No sense in trying to explain this to these hotheads now.

Once the lid is open would be a good time to point out to the CFO the 4 hours of downtime spent on getting the lid open.  It required six people, four of them were pulled from another production area.  The bake oven ran the whole time with nothing in it.  Explain to him that the cleaning cancellation has really started to cost us money.  We need to get Glacier Blast in here to get the dry ice blasting done!

If he still wants to drag his feet, tell him the lid is stuck shut again.
