Glacier Blast brings generator cabinet maintenance, repair cleaning and painting to the owners of emergency standby generators.Cleaning and painting of standby generator cabinets has followed the installation of them as new systems by approximately ten years.
Most of these generators are run for a short time once a month. They are brought up to operating temperature, the designed operation parameters are checked and then the generator is shut down. In some areas of the country this is the only time these generators are ever operated.
Wow! Payback on this investment has to be stretched way out there. The initial investment for these generators is always quite substantial. But, over time the shiny paint oxidizes and loses its shine. The exhaust stack starts to rust and rust streaks appear down the cabinet sides. Along the base, blistering paint may be seen bulging with thick scales of rust.

Perhaps John Doe Public is nearby and you've noticed some odd facial expressions as he beheld the investment that you are trying to be proud of. These expressions, no doubt, go to the devaluation side of the financial equation. Glacier Blast Inc. does not have the expertise to tell you exactly how much, but, we believe John Doe Public could tell you within 2 cents.
All kidding aside, we all know that excessive rust, corrosion, blistering and peeling paint do have a depreciative effect on the value of any piece of equipment. This also is true with emergency standby generators. Glacier Blast can share their cabinet restoration experience and expertise on this one.
A typical cabinet cleaning and painting job starts with inspecting all surfaces for rust scale and blisters. We then remove the thick scaling rust and blisters with scaling guns (needle guns). The entire cabinet exterior is then dry ice blasted. If need be, anything inside the cabinet is also blasted. Dry ice blasting removes the loose and poorly adhered paint, it also removes the oxidization, dirt, grease and surface rust.
Glacier Blast uses no abrasive blast media when cleaning the generator enclosures. Abrasive blasting media is not used because it has been proven to cause short and long term maintenance problems. Abrasive means what it says, anytime you have moving parts and something abrasive gets between them there will be long term damage. The blast media and dust can filter into electrical panels and equipment causing corrosion, arcing and shorts. The residual accumulation of dust retains moisture, moisture of course accelerates corrosion.

After the cabinet is dry ice blast cleaned the unprotected steel is then primed with a two part epoxy primer and allowed to cure to the manufacturers specifications. The exhaust stack is painted with a high temperature, usually black, paint. Polyurethane topcoat is then applied as the last step in restoring and protecting your investment.
Last but not least, at Glacier Blast Inc., we pride ourselves in doing a thorough job clean up. No paint smears, puddles or drips, no mess period. We want you and John Doe Public to be able to take pride in your investment again.
