How many times have I climbed this tower today?  No wonder I'm so pooped, I've climbed up and down this 260' tower six times, this is the seventh time going up.  Oh well, it's almost quitting time.

Remembering that I need to close the skylight vent that was opened this morning, a feeling of dread comes over me.  This morning when I had stepped from the platform onto the shaft to open the vent, my foot slipped in the oil on the shaft.  My balance was recovered but the thought of what could have happened remained.  Why don't they mandate wind turbine nacelle cleaning after gearbox failures?
Wind Turbine Nacelle Cleaning
Generator nacelle cleaning can't be that tough.  Wait a minute, pressure washing won't work because water can get into the equipment and cause corrosion and arcing. The waste water would have to be contained, treated and disposed of.  Cleaning by abrasive blasting is not going to work, we do not want anything abrasive up here to accelerate wear or arcing in the equipment, it too would have to be contained and disposed of.

Disposal fees by themselves can be costly. Containment and disposal of the secondary waste can be labor intense and an added expense.

Dry ice blasting is the ideal cleaning process for the wind turbine nacelle, generator and tower.  Dry ice blasting has no secondary waste stream that needs to be contained, treated, or disposed of. There is no water to accelerate corrosion, nor is there the worry of abrasive blast media causing long term damage.
